Beach volleyball
Beach volleyball, also known as beach volley, is a team sport played on sand by two teams of two to six players each, divided by a net. The objective is to ground the ball on the opponent's side, similar to indoor volleyball.

Reader's Guide
Beach volleyball grew in popularity during the Great Depression as an inexpensive activity and spread to Europe in the 1930s. Beach volleyball has since been added to the Pan American Games, Central American Games, Southeast Asian Games, Goodwill Games, and Universiade.
